Abstract For many years, definition and production of non-renewable resources has been crucial to meeting industrial societal demands for energy materials. In the evolving transition, priority is meet not only world’s increasing requirements but also expectations net zero by 2050 or sooner. Renewable will play a key role in achieving this, this require critical minerals materials, whether use wind turbines building new distribution systems. Fossil fuels continue be used some processes increasingly hydrogen. Essential transition ongoing assessment reserves, including minerals, geological sites CO 2 H , carbon-based carbon-free fuels. Some principles underpinning traditional terms reserves can usefully applied provide rigour uniformity renewable opportunities. Carbon offsets, negative emissions recycling achieve zero. Whatever pathway that countries choose take, knowledge ready access essential clean future.
